Breath Story

A poem celebrating the breath of God shared with his world in acts of creation, rescue, and renewal

To begin, emptiness:
deep dark waters swept by
God’s breath.

Adam:
God in his nostrils, chest rising.
Breath given.

God’s people flee to freedom:
the wind blows.
Waymaking breath

Bethlehem:
a baby starts to cry.
Breath incarnate.

Gasping for air:
taking one final
crucified breath.

Returned from death:
stepping into dawn’s light.
Resurrected breath.

Appearing to friends:
bringing peace and a purpose.
Breath of life.

Coming
Shaking
Filling
Sending
Resourcing breath:
Our breath.
